What kind of items will I find at the Swap?
New and used gear and clothing for nearly every sport we carry. This includes: ski and snowboard gear, backpacks, bikes, boats, camping gear, (non-weight-bearing or safety) climbing gear, men’s, women’s and kids’ clothing and footwear, and accessories for all of the above. If you’re interested in selling your own used gear, please see our list of accepted items here. Used gear and clothing along with Alpine Shop clearance items can be found in the Swap Tent all weekend long.
Who sells their goodies at this event?
Along with Alpine Shop, any individuals who wants to sell their new or gently used items can participate. We accept used items on a consignment basis during regular store hours from Monday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Oct. 21 at 5 pm. How do I sell my stuff?
Bring the items you’re looking to sell (provided it meets our guidelines) to Alpine Shop Columbia (or Kirkwood) between Monday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 21. You will need to fill out some paperwork, price your items and sign a contract. Then, you simply sit back and wait for your product to sell. If we sell it, you receive either the entire sale price in credit to Alpine Shop or the sales price–less 25%–in a check.
Does my equipment need to meet any sort of standard?
Yes, it does. All gear must be in good working and condition and is subject to a safety check. All clothing must be clean and in good shape. (Sorry, there are some items we will not accept.) Alpine Shop reserves the right to refuse any item for any reason.
For skis, old straight-edged skis will not sell. More than likely, these skis will also have bindings that are not indemnified (meaning, they are not determined to be safe for current use). Manufacturers will not guarantee these binding and nearly all ski shops–including Alpine Shop–will refuse to work on them. You can find an official version of the 2010-2011 Indemnified Binding List at the Snowsports Industries America Web site here. If you plan on selling your bindings (or if you’re bindings are on your skis), please make sure the bindings are on this list. If they are not listed there, we will not accept them.
I don’t have the slightest idea what my gear is worth. Can you help me?
The final price you offer is completely up to you, but we are happy to let you know what similar items have sold for in past Swaps.
Sweet! I sold a bunch of stuff! When do I get paid?
We begin writing checks and issuing credits at 9 am on Monday, Oct. 24. You have until close of business on Wednesday, Oct. 26 to claim your payment (and any unsold items) in the store. Any unclaimed payments after Wed., Oct. 26, will be mailed in the form of either store-credit or check (depending on which you indicate at registration) to the address you provided us during check-in.
Drat! Some of my stuff didn’t sell. What do I do?
You need to pick up any items that fail to sell by 9 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Items not picked up by that time will be donated to a charity of our choosing with no compensation given to you. If you would like to automatically donate your items that do not sell, it’s as easy as checking a box when you register.
Good prices are nice; but I’m really looking for the newest and best!
